Encryption

Encryption is the process in which data is converted into an unrecognizable or "encrypted" form. It is used in order to protect sensitive information which is only shown by authorized users. This includes files and storage devices, as well as data transferred over wireless networks and the Internet.

When an encrypted file is opened it will appear scrambled. It must be decrypted in order to be recognized. This files require a pasword or private key to unlock.
